Perpetuating factors

Perpetuating factors have to be corrected to obtain lasting relief from myofascial pain and dysfunction.

Some include mechanical stresses, nutritional inadequacies, allergies, impaired sleep, forward head posture, abuse of muscles, long second toe, emotional stress, tight garments constricting muscles, and prolonged immobility.

We evaluate these perpetuating factors and teach the patients how to correct them. In some cases, we are not trained to treat all perpetuating factors and refer to the appropriate health care professional. For example, with low thyroid function, the patient needs to be referred to an endocrinologist.
